Is Visa Required to Enter Andaman?
If you are an Indian national, you don’t need a visa to visit Andaman and Nicobar Islands. You can enter Andaman for free without a visa. You need permission to visit tribal areas from the Deputy Commissioner. Even locals are not allowed to enter tribal areas.
Visa Requirement for Foreign Nationals
Even if you are from Bhutan or Nepal, you don’t need a visa to visit Andaman and you are exempted from those formalities. But if you are a citizen of Nepal but getting there from China, you should have a visa. If you belong to Maldives, you have permission to enter India and stay for around 90 days without visa.
To visit Andaman, Restricted Area Permit (RAP) is necessary for foreign nationals. This permit is easily available on your entry to Port Blair by ship or flight. The permit is valid for 30 days by Immigration Authorities. You can get it extended for more than 15 days.
Burma residents cannot enter North Andaman and Mayabunder even with Restricted Area Permit. They have to apply from the Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi to visit these places.
You can also get RAP from Foreigners Registration offices in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata as well as Immigration Authorities. Keep in mind that Nicobar Islands need special permission to visit from the Deputy Commissioner of Nicobar District and it is not open for tourists. Some of the tribal areas of Nicobar are strictly prohibited for tourists.
Destinations covered by Airlines
Veer Savarkar Airport is the only airport in Andaman Islands. It is also known as Port Blair Airport which receives daily flights from Chennai, Delhi and Kolkata. Flights from Kolkata and Delhi also have layovers in Chennai. You cannot take direct flights to Southeast Asia from Port Blair.

Veer Savarkar Airport, Port Blair has a lot of facilities for tourists, such as Snack Bar, Tourist Counter, Restaurant, Bank, Pay Phone, Handicrafts Shop, and Post Office.
Airport Entry Gates
There are only 2 entry gates in Domestic Terminal and there is no international terminal.
Veer Savarkar Airport in Port Blair serves as the only entryway to Andaman by air. Currently, only a few airlines are available and you can’t take any international flight over there. A new airport will be built soon for international tourists in Northern Andaman.
